Project Placements
Research project placements will take place during the Lent and Summer terms, within academic departments, research institutes, or industry settings. Each placement will involve four days per week over a period of approximately six months, concluding in late June or early July. A dedicated period at the end will be set aside for writing up the project.
Throughout the placement, students will be supported by both an academic supervisor and an industry-based supervisor, who will work closely with them to guide the development of a thesis presenting original research in their chosen area of interest.
Projects may be based in either academic or industry environments, depending on factors such as access to specialist equipment, availability of relevant data, and the expertise of the supervisory team. At the start of the academic year, students will be introduced to the range of available research projects. In the first few weeks of October, supervisors will provide concise written summaries outlining their research topics, helping students make informed choices about their placements.
