This seminar by Dr Damian Crowther will cover -

Academia/Industry interface on 1) what is a potential target and 2) how to translate basic research understanding of a potential target in to a real target based drug development programme. Often researchers conclude research projects and publications with discovery of a ‘potential biomarker or target’. Damian will address how the drug discovery and validation process works in a pharma company research setting to achieve a druggable target. Examples will be drawn from experience with Alzheimer’s disease. The seminar is also an opportunity to discuss specific issues relating to your own research with the speaker.

About the speaker: Dr Damian Crowther trained in clinical medicine at Cambridge and Oxford, and received a PhD in protein structural biology from the University of Cambridge. Damian served as a faculty member for 14 years at the University of Cambridge (Department of Genetics), and led a research group working on the toxic mechanisms of protein aggregates in neurodegenerative disorders. His research focused on clinical neurology as well as basic neuroscience. In 2015, Damian joined AstraZeneca as Director of R&D. Here he is responsible for projects in neurodegeneration from target identification through to early clinical studies.
